...These are some of the reasons people volunteer to participate in a clinical trial, but whatever the reasons, millions of lives have been saved or extended through the results from clinical trials. At Guosa Life Sciences, our goal is to provide you with the information you need to make an objective decision and to protect your rights and safety after you volunteer for a trial.

A clinical trial is a carefully planned research study using human volunteers like you (also called participants) to find treatments that are safe and work well in people and new ways to improve health. Clinical trials are conducted under very close supervision of medical and other professionals. There are different types of trials and each type is conducted according to protocol. A protocol is a plan that describes the specific trial instructions, activities, types of patients that can participate in the study, as well as the outcomes that will be measured. Each person participating in the study must agree to the rules set out by the protocol. Guosa Life Sciences is hired by government organizations, or major pharmaceutical or medical device companies to conduct clinical studies for them.

You must first qualify for a study in order to participate. Every clinical study has specific requirements for who can or cannot participate. These requirements are described in the protocol. To qualify, volunteers must meet the "inclusion criteria" and the factors that prevent volunteers from participating are called "exclusion criteria." These criteria can include age, gender, the type and stage of a disease, medical history, and recent participation in another clinical trial. The researchers use this information to ensure participants' safety and achieve successful outcomes.

Keep in mind though, that some clinical trials are actually looking for participants who have the medical condition being studied, while others are looking for participants who are healthy and have no previous health conditions.

Like with everything in life, there are known and unknown risks associated with clinical trials. They are based on each study and the inherent uncertainty associated with medical research.

The United States Food and Drug Administration and other national organizations around the world have regulations and guidelines to protect participants and to conduct clinical trials. These guidelines require participants to be provided with complete and accurate information about the trial.

The participants must sign a document called an “informed consent” before participating. The informed consent is to ensure you understand the potential risks and the trial process. You should also ask questions related to the purpose of the trial, about your care, ability to withdraw at any time and the cost or compensation associated with the study. You should only agree to take part after you clearly understand the requirements and feel comfortable. You should take time to talk over your decision with your doctors, family, and friends. Your rights will be explained to you and if you agree to take part, you will be asked to sign the "informed consent form” The consent form is not a contract and you can leave the study at any time.

It's your personal choice if you want to participate in a clinical trial. If you are not sure, speak to your doctor, family, and friends. You can contact us if you are trying to find a trial that you might qualify for or to get more information.

Please complete the study participant sign up form. After submitting the form, a study specialist will contact you to determine your suitability for a study and provide you additional information.
